The Legal & General Stocks & Shares ISA allows investors to choose their own investments in mutual funds. You're also able to select pre-built portfolios or opt for a professionally-managed option. This ISA doesn't offer individual shares, ETFs, commodities, or money market funds.

The account doesn't offer fractional shares – you must buy whole units of investments, making it harder to get your full deposit into the market.

This isn’t a flexible ISA, meaning you can’t withdraw and redeposit in the same tax year without negatively affecting your annual ISA limit. If you deposited £10,000, withdrew and then redeposited, your entire £20,000 ISA allowance would be used up.

In-specie transfers are supported, meaning you can transfer your portfolio from another investment platform – or to another platform – as long as the same assets are available on both.

Legal & General ranks joint-12th by Fi Fee for small investors (£10,000 portfolios), and they drop down to 34th for large portfolios (balances of £500,000). To invest, you’ll need a minimum lump sum deposit of £100 or an ongoing monthly investment of at least £20.

Legal & General charges a flat, uncapped 0.25% account fee, which is a lot on larger balances. There's no commission to buy or sell funds and you can pick your own funds or have them select a fund portfolio based on your risk profile.

DrawdownDoes this SIPP support drawdown? Yes

Legal & General's SIPP provides access to DIY investing (you can choose your own investments), ready-made portfolios, and professionally-managed portfolios. You can invest into mutual funds. This SIPP doesn't offer individual shares, ETFs, commodities, or money market funds (MMFs).

Investors can't transfer their investments in-specie, meaning they must convert to cash prior to transferring to another provider.

Fractional shares aren't supported, meaning you can only buy whole units of each investment. This can lead to leftover cash being sat in the account when making ongoing investments.

When it comes to a pension offering, this SIPP covers some of the major things you’d be looking for: drawdown is supported, but limited company directors can't deposit via their business and employers can't make contributions to their employee’s SIPP either.

Legal & General's SIPP ranks joint-5th by Fi Fee for small investors, though it drops down to 22nd for bigger investors.

With the Legal & General 'Personal Pension' there's a limited choice of 5 mutual funds or a default managed option. The platform fee is 0.25% and an additional fund management charge of 0.31%.
